    • Housed in an invitingly converted Golden Fleece roadhouse, PIKNIK sources all of the very best produce the Bellarine Peninsula has to offer. PIKNIK is a unique licenced cafe restaurant and pantry at the heart of the Bellarine taste trail.

Piknik originally started out as a small market stall selling jams, preserves and other produce that had been ‘picked and nicked’ from local farms and orchards along the Bellarine Peninsula. When the old roadhouse became available it was the perfect place to set up a cafe that could showcase the homemade preserves in creative dishes.

Owners Denise and Dave Humphris both have more than 20 years experience in the hospitality industry, ranging from wine wholesale to managing cafes, restaurants and pubs. The dream of operating their own unique hospitality business somewhere in the country was realised when they purchased PIKNIK.

Our chefs Hamish Hames & Scott Marshall embrace local and seasonal produce meaning the menu is constantly changing. Depending on the time of year, you’ll be able to breakfast or brunch on items like gluten-free French crepes with coconut butterscotch, fresh berries and cream or bruschetta with house-made fig jam, blue cheese and bacon on sourdough from local bakery, Alchemy. Kossies free range eggs anyway you like with heaps of sides on offer our our specialty. Complete the most important meal of the day with a fresh ground espresso from Allpress Coffee, Love Tea or even a Bloody Mary.

A long lunch at Piknik is a unique experience. There’s not too many places where you can sit in a converted roadhouse and sip on a glass of local pinot noir with a beef bourguignon or pair a Thai larb salad with a glass of crisp riesling. Go all out with high quality meat cuts from Flinder’s Island Meats and finish with a slice of one of the house-made cakes or a scoop of ice-cream. Dinner is served every Saturday night with a seasonal menu created by talented local chef Hamish Hames. Check out our menus on the EAT page.

The converted roadhouse cafe is filled with rustic wooden tables, while the shelves that line the walls are stocked with the jams and preserves that started the Piknik journey. On the weekends the old workshop is opened up to create more space where you can enjoy a little bit of nostalgia whilst sitting at the communal tables made from recycled bowling alleys. It’s the perfect spot to graze on charcuterie plates with friends and kick back to some live acoustic music. PIKNIK is also a unique space for your next function or event.

Whatever you do, don’t forget to take one of the jams or preserves home with you. They are equally as seasonal, and taste just as good lathered on your Monday morning toast. The all-day menu means that Piknik is ready and waiting, regardless of the time you roll out of bed. Whether it be brunch, lunch, or sometime in between come on down to PIKNIK where you will experience some of the best the Bellarine Peninsula has to offer.
